Black Coffee gets another international award nomination

World-renowned DJ Nkosinathi “Black Coffee” Maphumulo has been nominated for a DJ Awards gong for the second year in a row.

This year, he has been nominated in the Deep House category and will be going up against renowned DJs Duke Dumont, Sonny Fodera and Adam Port, among others.

The annual awards, founded by Ibiza organiser Jose Pascual and Lenny Krarup, are set to take place on October 3 in Ibiza, Spain.

DJ Awards are a celebration of electronic dance music and, according to their website, offer nine categories including Bass, Big Room House, Deep House, Electronica, Techno, Tech House and Trance, plus two new categories; Electronic Live Performer and House. There are also three non-music categories: Breakthrough, International DJ and Newcomer.

Coffee took the Breakthrough Award last year.

The year 2016 seems like the Year of Black Coffee as the We dance Again hit-maker bagged Samas for Best Dance Album, Best Engineered Album and Album of the Year for Pieces Of Me, as well as International Achievement Award after going to the Coachella festival in the US in April this year.

Coffee is not the only local talent putting South Africa on the map –  Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and Cassper Nyovest were also nominated in the BET Awards’ Best International Act: Africa Awards category. The awards will also see AKA perform at the BET Experience Fan Fest.

The event, to be held in Los Angeles at the Los Angeles Convention Center, is free to all the partygoers and is scheduled for Saturday, June 25.

AKA will share a stage with the likes of Break Every Chain gospel hit-maker Tasha Cobbs; German singer and songwriter Bibi Bourelly; Desiigner, who will perform his hit song Panda; Triple Threat singer, songwriter and rapper Dreezy; and rap icon Fat Joe, among others.

Congratulations to our stars, keep flying the Mzansi flag high!
